So, managed to do some kind of background here, dont know whst to think of it yet though. Dont get me wrong, I love the art itself, drawn by Michael Turner. What bugs me about it is the way the layout looks on this page, I should try and do something about that.
The image itself is from the Marvel crossover story Civil war, 2006-2007, a story that pitted the heroes of the Marvel universe against each other when US goverment decides to pass a bill entitled Superhero Registration Act (SRA). The decision is made after an incident later called the Stamford Incident. Young superhero group the New Warriors, participating in a reality tv show, understimated a hostile situation when they tried to apprehend a group of villains, one of which was the villain Nitro. Trying to escape, Nitro caused an explotion thaat killed 600 civilians, including 60 children. The heroes are devided into two camps, pro registration and anti, with Captain America leading the underground resistance, along with such heroes as Luke Cage, The Falcon, Daredevil, eventually Spiderman and several others against Iron Man, Reed Richards, Henry Pym and many more.
Though denied by the author, Mark Millar, and Marvel as well, many consider Civil War to be a sort of reference at the then newly passed and much discussed Patriot Act bill in the US. The bill was accused of decreasing the freedoms of the individual, bringing with it more surviellance. The same can be said about the fictive SRA, which demanded that every costumed hero took of his or hers mask and identified themselves with the goverment, the goal being having more control of the superpowered community.
Anyways, I'll probably get more into Civil War some time later on, this was just a little random info based on the new background. If you haven't read it, you definately should!!
